Henri Julien Félix Rousseau, also known as Le Douanier (the customs officer), was a French post-impressionist painter in the Naïve or Primitive manner. Born in 1844, he started painting seriously in his early forties and retired from his job as a toll and tax collector at age 49 to focus on his art full-time.
